This month SubaruGirlies.com visits Hope of Anchorage , AK and her MULTIPLE Subaru's. Hope and her husband both own Subies, are enthusiasts and we're absolutely thrilled to have her as a very active member of SubaruGirlies.com!

-Tell us a bit about your Subaru ownership? What made you purchase a Subaru?
"I have worked in Outside Sales for 8 years now. In Alaska, that means driving to and in all kinds of weather and terrain, especially up in the hillside areas. My FWD little Pontiac Vibe GT wasn't cutting it and I seemed to get stuck in the snow or unable to start up hills.

After much frustration with spinning tires, I decided I wanted something AWD. I had seen a few pics of the new body style of the Legacy and heard they now had a turbo. I saw one driving around town and followed it for a good 5 miles because it was debadged. Once I saw it in person, I had to have it. So 2 months later, I traded my Vibe GT in and bought my 05 LGT."

-How many Subaru's do you own?!?! ...details!!
"We currently own 3 Subarus. My 05 LGT, hubby's 07 STI, and I just picked up my 08 STI April 1. Apparently we seem to buy our cars in April because the last 4 cars have been purchased as follows:
03 Vibe GT April 19, 2003
05 LGT April 20, 2005
07 STI April 26, 2007
08 STI April 1, 2008"

-Modification list? Favorite modification?
"My LGT was (now demodded and awaiting to be put back together) stage 3. Being a 5EAT, I found it made it a lot more difficult to mod because at the time, there were only a few people on the forums who had really modded theirs past your typical stg 2. I ran into some tranny issues as well and had to send off the Valve Body and solenoids to be upgraded by IPT in New Jersey. That ended up being an expensive venture. I installed a VF39 and did an STI swap (top end). I wanted to essentially have an STI in my auto LGT.

I upgraded suspension, brakes, tires, etc... basically spent a lot of $$$$ on the car. I can't say that I had a favorite mod in particular because it really was everything together that made the car fun. Now, the LGT is going back to stock and will be sold sometime this summer (whenever she's put back together). The 08 STI is now my current DD"

-Outside of cars, what hobbies do you enjoy?
"I don't have too many hobbies now a days. I mostly work. I own a small business and have 2 retail kiosks in 2 different malls. Of course they are on opposite sides of town so I have to go back and forth between the two most days. When I'm not at one place, I'm at the other, or I'm working at home or on customer calls.

My escape is the forums and racing in the summer season. I'm a vendor on the NASIOC forums, however most everything is regional so I really am a vendor in the AKIC section. I'm also a moderator on Legacygt.com and that definitely takes up much time. Last fall I took up dodge ball (yes, they really do have teams and leagues) and though my team sucked, we had a lot of fun and it made me get back into shape (of course not at the moment). I'll be getting ready and practicing my aim for this fall's season."  [Editor: dodge ball... awesome!]

-Do you have a funny story about your Subaru or a Subaru encounter?
" The best one I can think of was 2 yrs ago when a group of us drove up to Denali Nat'l Park for a meet. One of the AKIC mods is the manager of 2 of the resorts there and he gets us special rates for our annual Denali Meet. This was the first one.

There were 3 cars caravanning up, myself, an Audi S4 and a modded WRX. Well, of course, we all are zipping along, no telling exactly how fast, but it was pretty fast, passing cars on the little hwy, etc. We get round a large curve and get into a small little town where the speed limit drops to about 45. So we all slow way down and we're driving along at 45 when I look in my rear view mirror and see a Trooper with his lights on waving me over.

So I pull over and he gets out of his car and walks up. He was fuming! The look on his face when he sees me behind the wheel of the car was almost priceless. His jaw dropped and he had to recompose himself. some of the locals had called us in, and he chased us down over 13 miles. Because he never clocked us speeding, he could only get us on "illegal passing at a high rate of speed." he then put an ABP out for the other 2 cars all the way up to Fairbanks. There were about 10 trooper cars looking for us. The other two were found parked off the side of the road waiting to find out what happened. 4 or 5 troopers had them surrounded.

Needless to say, all 3 of us got tickets that afternoon." [Editors thoughts: ouch!!! that sucks but it is ... funny!]

- Best thing about being a SubaruGirlie?
"Best thing about being a SubaruGirlie is the look on guys' faces when you get out of your family sedan and they realize a girl just smoked them down the 1/4 mile in her auto!" [Editor:  And the people said... Amen!]
