This month SubaruGirlies.com visits Amber who resides in Sunny Florida! Amber has a lovely 2004 Bright Red WRX read on to learn more about it....! She's a big contributor in the SubaruGirlies discussion forums and is usually the first one to greet new members with a cheery "Hello - Welcome!"  Were happy to have Amber as a part of our site, now it's time to get to know her a little bit better!

-Tell us about your Subaru ownership? What made you purchase a Subaru?
"I began my Subaru ownership back on May 27, 2003.  My boyfriend at the time discovered a car that was to be just amazing, it was the first year built and for the price couldn't be beat.  I waited 2-3 months and even signed the papers before test driving it.  I just knew it was everything I could want in a car, minus a radio.  *lol*.  So on that day I bought my 1st Subaru,  it was of course the 2004 Subaru STi, from that day on I loved Subaru.  A year later I bought my 2004 WRX.  The STi didn't make it but I still have my other baby.  The WRX has been so good to me.  She has been through a lot, track days, long drives, FL heat, it doesn't matter. "

-Modifications? What is your favorite Modification? Least favorite? Future plans? "For my modifications I have done just about all I can without moving to the internals. This includes, header, full exhaust, suspension, brakes, clutch, and tuning.

My favorite mod would have to be my exhaust, I just love the way my car sounds!  It's only a shame I can't hear the beautiful sounds as everyone else can when I drive by.  I don't really have a least favorite mod, I really like them all! [editor: then you have made the right choices!]

My future plans include working on my transmission.  I would really like to upgrade and build it to be stronger.  With the mods I currently have it really needs the extra strength.

-Outside of cars, what hobbies do you enjoy?
"I love being outside and being active.  I usually spent free time hanging out with friends.  I try to do new things and have new experiences.  I am always up for anything."

-What is... your favorite food? Movie? Favorite thing to do when feeling Laaazy?
"Food: Anything green, peas and green beans especially.   Movie: Star Wars [editor: sweeet!]
Laziness: Watch TV!

-Do you have a funny Subaru Story to share??
Back during Memorial Day weekend 2006 the NASIOC Annual Dragon trip was planned.  I was apart of a caravan from Orlando that was going to meet up with some fellow Subie owners in Atlanta then caravan to the Dragon.  This was my 3rd trip up to the dragon but was going to be the first time I actually got to drive on the dragon itself.

So our caravan made it to Atlanta and we stayed with one of the Subie owners for the night.  He had a bbq at his house, we played pool and just hung out.  It was cool to meet some of the people you talk to on the boards but had never met before.  The Orlando crew and I camped in the basement.  My friends brought blow-up mattresses and I was on a couch.  This was also my first time staying in a basement, lol.  So we all went to sleep and around 3am I woke up hot.  I personally can't stand to sleep hot so I was going to take my pillow and blanket and go upstairs to find a place to sleep.

My friend Bob was awake and tried to explain that the basement is probably the coolest room in the house.  I was like whatever Bob.  So I opened my cell phone to guide me up the flight of stairs.  I don't know how far I got up, to me it only seemed like a couple steps, when all of a sudden I began to lose my balance.  I felt like I was going to fall backwards, so I turned around to try and walk down the steps but my momentum was already to great.

In those split seconds I thought I can't be that high up, I'll just jump.  OMG!  I have never felt pain so bad, my ankle just buckled and I laid there.  Bob then asks if I am okay and I say yes.  I was a little embarrassed and just thought I rolled my ankle.  A couple seconds later Bob asks again if I am okay and I say No.  So he turns on the light and helps me to the couch, my ankle is the size of a softball or bigger.  He put ice on it and gave me 4 ibuprofen, it still didn't ease any of the pain.  So while I am laying there Bob wants to give a replay of what he saw.  He's like all I saw was your cell phone flying through the air and then it was on the ground.  I didn't sleep the rest of the night and just laid there in pain.

As soon as the sun came up I tried to walk up stairs so I could shower and change.  There was no way I could put any pressure on it so I crawled up the stairs.  Well the shower was on the 2nd floor so I had to crawl up another flight and make it to the bathroom. When I got done Bob was awake so he drove me to an urgent care place.  They took x-rays and happened to leave the door open to my room.  So I hear a man say, yep it's fractured.  I started to laugh so I didn't cry.  Since I was out of state they just gave me a soft cast and crutches until I got back home.  No fracture was going to spoil my subaru trip. :)

My friend in Atlanta put some stickers on my cast and I got people to sign it.  Luckily my other friend Tristan rode along with Bob so we had a spare driver.  Needless to say I didn't drive the dragon nor did I drive the rest of the trip.  However it was the best trip I had ever been on, I don't know how many times I almost died up there.  Hills and stairs are not easy to navigate on crutches.  Even still I had so much fun.
[editor: funniest story ever!! really glad you were okay!!]

 - Best thing about being a SubaruGirlie?
It is just nice to be apart of a website that promotes females and cars, neither as objects but both as beings.
